About this page. This is a plain English summary of the men's health service at Urology NSW. It does not replace medical advice from your own doctor or specialist.

What this service is
Urology NSW runs a men's health service alongside Dr Kooner's urology clinic. It is a one-stop service that helps with the kinds of problems men often find hard to talk about, including:
- Erectile dysfunction (trouble getting or keeping an erection).
- Premature ejaculation.
- Peyronie's disease (curvature of the penis).
- Phimosis (a tight foreskin).
- Recovery and ongoing care after prostate cancer treatment, including continence and sexual function.
The service is part of Dr Kooner's individual care plan for each patient, so the urology side and the men's health side talk to each other.
Why an in-house pharmacist
Urology NSW has an in-house men's health pharmacist. The pharmacist:
- Explains how each medication works, in plain terms.
- Prepares medications to suit each patient (for example, individually compounded injection therapy doses).
- Trains patients in the practical steps for using treatments such as injection therapy.
- Works alongside Dr Kooner so the medical and the medication side of care are joined up.
Sexual and reproductive health
Common topics covered include:
- Erectile dysfunction, including tablets, vacuum pumps, injections and (when other options have not worked) the surgical implant option.
- ED and diabetes, where blood vessel and nerve changes can affect erections.
- Premature ejaculation - assessment and treatment options.
- Peyronie's disease - curvature, lumps and painful erections.
- Phimosis - a tight foreskin that may need treatment.
- Sexual rehabilitation after prostate surgery.
Recovery and survivorship after prostate cancer
After prostate cancer treatment, several issues can need ongoing support:
- Continence recovery after surgery or radiotherapy.
- Follow-up and surveillance with regular PSA blood tests and reviews.
- Psychosocial support - dealing with the emotional and mental side of cancer.
The clinic helps with all of these as part of the same service.
Important things to know
- Many men's health problems are very common and very treatable. Asking for help is the first step.
- Some symptoms (for example, erectile dysfunction) can be an early sign of other health problems such as heart disease or diabetes. A proper assessment looks at the whole picture, not just the symptom.
- Each treatment - tablet, injection, device or operation - has its own benefits and risks. The right one depends on the cause and on what suits the individual.
- This page is general information only. The right plan for you should be decided with your own specialist.
