Men's Health Pharmacist Service
A dedicated men's health pharmacist, in-house
Urology NSW's men's health pharmacists work as part of Dr Kooner's one-stop clinic. Their role is to help patients understand and manage a wide range of men's health concerns alongside their urological care, with information and practical support tailored to each person.
The service is not a substitute for medical consultation. Medications are only used after review by Dr Kooner or the referring specialist, and the pharmacist works within that individualised treatment plan.
What the service covers
The men's health pharmacists can help with:
- Prostate cancer and penile rehabilitation – guidance and support for patients in, or recovering from, prostate-cancer treatment, including structured penile rehabilitation programs. See also Sexual Rehabilitation After Prostatectomy.
- Intracavernosal injection preparation and administration – training and education on the safe preparation and self-administration of intracavernosal injection therapy, tailored to each patient. See Intracavernosal Injections.
- Erectile dysfunction (ED) – information on treatment options and strategies as part of a personalised plan. See Erectile Dysfunction.
- Peyronie's disease – information and resources on management options. See Peyronie's Disease.
- ED associated with diabetes – tailored approaches for men whose erectile dysfunction relates to diabetes. See ED and Diabetes.
- Phimosis (foreskin that does not retract) – guidance and options for assessment and management. See Phimosis.
- Premature ejaculation – strategies and treatment information, including behavioural and pharmacological approaches. See Premature Ejaculation.
- Incontinence, especially after prostatectomy – support and information for men recovering from prostate surgery. See Continence After Prostatectomy.
- Other men's health concerns – the pharmacists can provide information on a range of men's health issues as part of the clinic's care.
What happens at an appointment
A typical appointment is a structured one-on-one discussion. The pharmacist reviews the current treatment plan, answers questions about medications and devices, and, where relevant, demonstrates preparation or administration technique step by step. Written information is provided so patients can refer to it at home.
For injection-based therapies, the first session is usually the longest. Follow-up sessions are shorter and focus on dose titration, side-effect management, and troubleshooting any difficulties.
